Home Exchange in Chefchaouen

No verified homes listed in Chefchaouen yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

The blue walls of Chefchaouen aren't just painted — they're washed, yearly, by hand, in a ritual that keeps the medina glowing like a sky trapped in stone. Tucked into the Rif Mountains, this small city moves at the pace of mint tea poured from a height, where every alley opens onto a fountain and every doorway frames a cat in the shade. Staying here means waking to the call to prayer echoing off cobalt plaster, buying bread still warm from the communal oven, and learning that the best tagines simmer in homes, not restaurants. The homes below open the door to that rhythm.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 7 free credits — one full week — so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

When's the best time to visit Chefchaouen?

Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) bring mild days perfect for wandering the medina and hiking the Rif trails without the summer heat. Winter can be surprisingly cool — the mountains trap mist and occasional rain — but the blue walls glow deeper under grey skies, and you'll have the alleyways nearly to yourself. Summer draws crowds, though mornings and evenings stay pleasant if you retreat indoors during midday.
