Home Exchange in Bogotá

No verified homes listed in Bogotá yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Bogotá wakes to the smell of arepas on street corners and the clink of tinto cups in La Candelaria's cobbled plazas. At 2,640 metres, the air is thin and the light is sharp, turning the brick facades of Chapinero rose-gold by late afternoon. This is a city that rewards the long stay: the rhythm of Sunday ciclovía when Séptima closes to cars, the quiet mornings in Usaquén's market, the way neighbours linger over almuerzo in barrios where tourists rarely venture. The homes below open the door to that altitude, that light, and those Sunday mornings.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 7 free credits — one full week — so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

Which neighbourhoods in Bogotá feel most local?

Chapinero offers tree-lined streets, independent bookshops, and a young, creative energy. La Candelaria is the colonial heart—cobblestones, murals, university students—but can feel touristy by day. Usaquén, to the north, has a village feel with its Sunday flea market and quiet residential blocks. Teusaquillo is middle-class Bogotá at its most everyday: parks, panaderías, families. Each sits at a different altitude and mood, but all share the same thin air and that particular Andean quality of light.
