Home Exchange in Cartagena

No verified homes listed in Cartagena yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

The clatter of horse-drawn carriages on cobblestone fades as you slip into the walled city's quieter lanes, where bougainvillea spills over colonial balconies and the smell of arepas de huevo drifts from corner stalls. Cartagena rewards the traveller who stays long enough to feel the rhythm shift — mornings in Getsemaní's street art alleys, afternoons when the heat slows everything to a merciful crawl, evenings when the plazas fill with families and the Caribbean breeze finally arrives. The homes below open the door to that rhythm.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 7 free credits — one full week — so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

Which neighbourhoods in Cartagena feel most local?

Getsemaní pulses with street life, murals, and corner tiendas where neighbours gather at dusk. It sits just outside the walled old town, close enough to walk but far more lived-in. For beachside calm, Bocagrande offers high-rise condos along the waterfront, popular with Colombian families. The historic centre — San Diego and Santo Domingo — is stunning but heavily tourist-facing. December through March brings dry skies and crowds; May and October see afternoon rains but quieter streets and lower prices.
