Home Exchange in Salento
No verified homes listed in Salento yet — the first hosts get priority placement.
The smell of coffee hits before the town does — sweet, earthy, threaded through mountain fog that clings to the wax palms rising from the valleys below. Salento is the kind of place where locals still gather in doorways at dusk, where the painted balconies of the plaza aren't for tourists but for the rhythm of daily life that hasn't sped up to match the rest of the world. Staying in a home here means morning light through wooden shutters, a kitchen stocked with panela and arepas, a porch where the only agenda is watching the hummingbirds work the fuchsia. The homes below open the door to that rhythm.

Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 7 free credits — one full week — so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
What's the best time to visit Salento?
The dry seasons — December through March and June through September — bring clearer skies for hiking the Cocora Valley, though the cloud forest never fully sheds its mist. Weekdays feel quieter than weekends, when Colombian families arrive from Pereira and Armenia. Mornings are crisp year-round at this altitude; pack layers. The coffee harvest peaks twice a year, and you'll see it in the energy of the fincas and the conversations in town, though the landscape stays green no matter when you come.
