Home Exchange in Mumbai

No verified homes listed in Mumbai yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

The first monsoon rain hits Marine Drive and the whole city exhales — vendors unfurl plastic sheeting, the smell of wet earth rises from Oval Maidan, and chai stalls fill with office workers watching the Arabian Sea churn. Mumbai doesn't slow down for visitors; it asks you to find your rhythm inside its own. That means breakfast at the Irani café your neighbour recommends, evening walks through the art deco blocks of Churchgate, produce from Crawford Market carried home in cloth bags. The homes below open the door to that rhythm.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 7 free credits — one full week — so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

Which neighbourhoods in Mumbai feel most liveable for a home exchange stay?

Bandra and Khar offer tree-lined residential pockets with independent cafés and the Bandstand promenade. Colaba and Fort place you near colonial architecture and the harbour, though they skew touristy. Versova and Juhu give you the Arabian Sea and a quieter, more village-like feel. Most locals rely on autos, trains, and app cabs — Mumbai's geography is a long north-south spine, so choosing your base by the experiences you want (nightlife, markets, seafront) matters more than centrality.
