Czech Republic invites food and culture travellers into a world of medieval town squares, baroque concert halls, and beer gardens where centuries-old recipes still guide the kitchen. Beyond Prague's cobbled lanes, you'll find regional specialities that shift with the landscape—Moravian wine cellars carved into hillsides, South Bohemian fish ponds supplying Christmas carp, and mountain villages where smoked meat and dumplings fuel cold-weather traditions. Markets brim with trdelník spirals, fresh kvass, and seasonal mushrooms foraged from ancient forests. Every meal here carries history, whether you're sharing svíčková in a family kitchen or sampling monastery-brewed lagers in a Gothic cellar.

Why Czech Republic works for food & culture

Homes, not hotel rooms

Live in a real Czech Republic home — kitchen, balcony, neighbourhood rhythm — instead of a generic hotel room.

Fair by design

1 credit = 1 night. Every home is worth the same. No bidding, no haggling, no price surges.

Curated for food & culture

We prioritise kitchen — the kind of homes that actually fit the travel style.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

What food traditions should culture-focused travellers experience in Czech Republic?

Start with hospoda culture—neighbourhood pubs where locals gather over pilsner and hearty plates of goulash or roast pork with dumplings. Visit during Christmas markets for trdelník, mulled wine, and carp preparations that date back generations. Explore Moravian wine regions in the southeast, where small vintners open their cellars for tastings. Don't miss kolaches from village bakeries, and if you're there in autumn, join a mushroom foraging tradition that's woven into Czech family life. Each region proudly guards its own recipes and brewing methods.
