Seasonal Travel Home Exchange in Colombia

Every season opens up different parts of the country.

Colombia's dramatic seasonal shifts open distinct windows for exploration. The dry season (December through March, then July-August) brings Andean hiking trails into their prime and transforms the Caribbean coast into a sun-drenched retreat, while the wet months soften the coffee region into emerald brilliance and fill Amazonian tributaries for deeper jungle access. Seasonal travellers find rich reward in timing visits to regional festivals—Barranquilla's Carnaval in February, Medellín's Feria de las Flores in August—or chasing microclimates across altitudes, from the perpetual spring of Bogotá's savanna to the tropical warmth of Cartagena's old town.

Why Colombia works for seasonal travel

Homes, not hotel rooms

Live in a real Colombia home — kitchen, balcony, neighbourhood rhythm — instead of a generic hotel room.

Fair by design

1 credit = 1 night. Every home is worth the same. No bidding, no haggling, no price surges.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

When should seasonal travellers plan their Colombia visit to match specific experiences?

December through March offers the driest weather for Caribbean beaches and mountain treks in the Sierra Nevada. July and August bring a shorter dry window ideal for coffee harvest tours in the Zona Cafetera and whale watching along the Pacific coast near Nuquí. The wet months (April-June, September-November) reward those seeking lush landscapes in the cloud forests of Cocora Valley and fewer crowds at archaeological sites like San Agustín, though afternoon downpours are common in the highlands.
