Seasonal Travel Home Exchange in South Korea
Every season opens up different parts of the country.

South Korea transforms dramatically with each season, offering seasonal travellers four distinct experiences in a compact geography. Spring brings the famous cherry blossom festivals that sweep from Jeju Island northward through Seoul's palace gardens. Summer opens up mountain temple stays and coastal escapes along the East Sea, while autumn sets the countryside ablaze with foliage that rivals any in Asia. Winter turns Gangwon Province into a snow sport paradise and illuminates cities with festival lights. The country's excellent KTX rail network means you can chase seasons across regions in hours, while seasonal food traditions—from spring wild vegetables to winter kimjang—give each visit its own flavour.

Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
When are the best shoulder seasons to experience South Korea without the crowds?
Late April to early May and late October to mid-November offer the sweet spot. You'll catch the tail end of cherry blossoms or peak autumn colours respectively, but miss the domestic holiday rushes of Golden Week and Chuseok. Temperatures hover comfortably in the teens, accommodation is easier to find, and popular sites like Bukchon Hanok Village or Nami Island become manageable. Early December is another gem—winter festivals begin, but ski season crowds haven't peaked. Avoid late July through August unless you're specifically chasing summer festivals; humidity and monsoon rains can be intense.
