Sweden transforms dramatically with each season, making it a natural canvas for travellers who chase light, weather, and seasonal rhythms. Winter brings the ethereal glow of northern lights above Lapland's frozen lakes and the cosy embrace of fika culture in candlelit cafés. Summer unfolds with midnight sun stretching evenings into endless golden hours, perfect for island-hopping the Stockholm archipelago or cycling through Skåne's wildflower meadows. Spring and autumn offer their own quiet magic—cherry blossoms in Kungsträdgården, mushroom foraging in Dalarna's forests, and the soft crunch of frost on morning walks. Each season shapes daily life here, from what's served at the table to how Swedes gather and celebrate.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

What should seasonal travellers know about Sweden's dramatic seasonal shifts?

Sweden's seasons aren't subtle—they reshape everything from daylight hours to cultural rhythms. Winter north of the Arctic Circle means weeks of polar night, while summer brings midnight sun; in Stockholm, December offers barely six hours of daylight, July nearly nineteen. Swedes adapt their homes and routines accordingly: triple-glazed windows, underfloor heating, and blackout curtains are standard. Each season also brings distinct traditions—crayfish parties in August, Lucia processions in December, Midsummer dancing in June. Pack layers year-round, respect seasonal grocery availability (root vegetables dominate winter markets), and embrace the Swedish concept of 'lagom'—finding balance whatever the season brings.
