Seasonal Travel Home Exchange in Switzerland

Every season opens up different parts of the country.

Switzerland transforms dramatically with each season, offering seasonal travellers a rare chance to experience four distinct personalities in one compact country. Winter brings the Alps alive with world-class skiing in Graubünden and Valais, while spring carpets the meadows in wildflowers and opens mountain passes for hiking. Summer turns the lakes of Ticino and Geneva into swimming havens, and autumn paints the vineyards of Lavaux in amber and gold. Each season also brings its own festivals, from Fasnacht carnival in February to grape harvest celebrations in October, making Switzerland ideal for travellers who return throughout the year to catch the country in different moods.

Why Switzerland works for seasonal travel

Homes, not hotel rooms

Live in a real Switzerland home — kitchen, balcony, neighbourhood rhythm — instead of a generic hotel room.

Fair by design

1 credit = 1 night. Every home is worth the same. No bidding, no haggling, no price surges.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

What's the best way to experience Switzerland across different seasons?

Plan visits around seasonal highlights rather than just weather. Winter (December–March) is for alpine sports and cozy mountain villages. Spring (April–May) offers fewer crowds and blooming landscapes, perfect for hiking lower elevations. Summer (June–September) unlocks high-altitude trails and lake swimming, while autumn (October–November) brings wine harvests, golden forests, and dramatically lower accommodation costs. Swiss public transport runs year-round with seasonal routes opening in summer, making it easy to explore different regions in each visit without needing a car.
