Home Exchange in Chiloé

No verified homes listed in Chiloé yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Chiloé feels like Chile's dreamier, rainier twin — an archipelago of wooden churches, stilt houses, and fog that rolls in from the Pacific like clockwork. The island's palafitos cling to the water's edge in Castro and Chonchi, painted in defiant purples and yellows against the grey. Here, curanto steams in earthen pits, potatoes come in a hundred varieties, and mythology still walks: the Trauco in the forest, La Pincoya in the waves. It's a place where timber shingles weather to silver, where fishing boats return at dawn, and where the landscape — dense, green, melancholic — asks you to slow down and listen.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

What's the best time to visit Chiloé?

Summer (December to March) brings the mildest weather and longer days, ideal for exploring the archipelago's churches and coastal villages. But Chiloé's moody beauty shines in autumn and spring too, when the rain softens the hills and you'll have trails and palafitos more to yourself. Winter is wet and wild — pack layers and waterproofs year-round. The island's charm doesn't depend on sunshine; it thrives in mist and drizzle, when the forests feel most alive and the wood smoke curls from chimneys in tiny fishing towns.
