Home Exchange in Puerto Varas

No verified homes listed in Puerto Varas yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Puerto Varas sits on the edge of Lago Llanquihue, where the water reflects the snow-capped cone of Volcán Osorno on clear mornings. German settlers left their mark in the town's shingled architecture and kuchen-filled bakeries, while the lake itself draws kayakers, sailors, and anyone chasing the kind of quiet that only comes from being surrounded by volcanoes and ancient forests. Walk the costanera at dusk when the light turns the Andes pink, or venture into the nearby national parks where araucaria trees and hot springs wait. This is Chilean Patagonia's gentler face—still wild, but with a wood stove and good coffee nearby.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

What's the best time to visit Puerto Varas?

Summer—December through March—brings long days and warmth perfect for hiking and lake activities, though the town fills with Chilean holidaymakers in January and February. Autumn offers golden foliage and fewer crowds, while winter turns the volcanoes brilliant white and brings a cozy, rain-soaked charm. Spring can be unpredictable but rewards you with wildflowers in the national parks. Pack layers year-round; the weather near the lake shifts quickly, and evenings always cool down.
