Home Exchange in Guanacaste

No verified homes listed in Guanacaste yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Guanacaste stretches along Costa Rica's Pacific edge, where dry forest meets volcanic slopes and the rhythm slows to match the surf. Mornings smell like guanábana and wood smoke; afternoons belong to the howler monkeys. The province feels less manicured than the cloud forests to the south—ranching country with dusty roads that lead to empty beaches, hot springs hidden in the hills, and towns where Spanish mixes with Chorotega place names. Stay long enough and you'll learn to time your days around the rainy-season downpours and the early sunsets that paint the Gulf of Papagayo gold.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

What's the climate like in Guanacaste, and when should I visit?

Guanacaste is Costa Rica's driest province, with a pronounced dry season from December through April—reliably sunny, though dusty and brown by March. The green season (May to November) brings afternoon rains that cool everything down and revive the forests; mornings stay clear, beaches empty out, and the landscape turns lush. If you want guaranteed sun, come in the dry months. If you prefer fewer crowds and don't mind an umbrella, the shoulder seasons of May and November offer the best of both.
