Home Exchange in Monteverde
No verified homes listed in Monteverde yet — the first hosts get priority placement.
Monteverde feels less like a town and more like a secret held by the clouds. Perched in Costa Rica's misty highlands, this region wraps itself in cool air and birdsong, where the forest drips with moss and orchids cling to every branch. Mornings start with the hum of howler monkeys, afternoons disappear into canopy walks suspended above the treetops. The coffee here tastes like the volcanic soil it grows in, and evenings settle quiet and early, the kind of stillness that makes you forget your phone exists. It's a place that asks you to slow down, look up, and listen.

Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
What's the weather like in Monteverde?
Monteverde sits in a cloud forest, so expect cool temperatures year-round—usually between 15-22°C. Mornings often start misty, with clouds rolling through the canopy before clearing by afternoon. The dry season (December to April) brings clearer skies and easier hiking, while the green season (May to November) means more rain but also fewer crowds and lush, dripping forests. Pack layers regardless of when you visit—it's always cooler up here than on the coast, and the mist has a way of sneaking in.
