Home Exchange in Crete
No verified homes listed in Crete yet — the first hosts get priority placement.
Crete unfolds in layers: olive groves climbing into mountain villages where tavernas serve dakos still warm from the oven, then a sharp descent to beaches where the Libyan Sea glows turquoise against pink sand. Chania's Venetian harbour hums with evening foot traffic, while Heraklion pulses around its fortress and market stalls piled with graviera and wild greens. Inland, the Lasithi Plateau stretches quiet and green, dotted with windmills and stone farmhouses. This is an island that asks you to slow down—to follow dirt roads toward a family-run winery, to swim in a gorge-fed cove, to let the rhythm of summer siestas and late dinners reshape your days.

Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
When's the best time to visit Crete?
Late spring and early autumn—May through June, then September into October—offer warm seas, blooming hillsides, and quieter trails without the peak summer crush. July and August bring heat and crowds, especially along the north coast. Winter is mild and green, ideal for hiking the Samaria Gorge or exploring mountain villages, though many coastal spots close until Easter. Shoulder seasons give you the island at its most generous: open tavernas, swimmable water, and locals with time to talk.
