Home Exchange in Thessaloniki

No verified homes listed in Thessaloniki yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Thessaloniki unfolds along the Thermaic Gulf with a rhythm all its own — slower than Athens, saltier, more conversational. Breakfast here means bougatsa from a century-old pastry shop, followed by coffee that lasts until lunch. The Upper Town still has cobblestones and Byzantine walls; down by the water, the White Tower stands watch over a promenade lined with locals on evening strolls. Markets spill over with olives and herbs, tavernas stay open late, and the city wears its layers — Roman, Ottoman, Jewish, Greek — without trying too hard to explain them.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

Which neighbourhoods in Thessaloniki feel most lived-in?

Ano Poli (the Upper Town) keeps its village feel with narrow lanes, wooden balconies, and views over the entire city. Ladadika, once the oil market, now hums with tavernas and bars in renovated warehouses. For everyday Thessaloniki, wander Rotunda and the streets around Aristotelous Square — morning markets, corner bakeries, neighbours greeting each other by name. The waterfront from the White Tower to the Concert Hall is where the city goes to breathe, especially at sunset.
