Home Exchange in Bilbao
No verified homes listed in Bilbao yet — the first hosts get priority placement.
Bilbao hums with a particular energy — industrial grit softened by river light and the kind of pride that rebuilt a city around a single titanium museum. Beyond the Guggenheim's curves, the Casco Viejo spills over with pintxo bars where locals argue over counters laden with gilda skewers and bacalao. Autumn fog rolls in from the estuary, summer brings long bright evenings on terraces, and year-round the green Basque hills press close. Neighbourhoods like Deusto and Abando feel lived-in, unhurried, real — places where you hear more Euskara than English and the rhythms belong to people who've stayed put.

Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
What's the best time to visit Bilbao?
Spring and early autumn bring mild temperatures and fewer crowds, ideal for wandering the Casco Viejo or hiking the surrounding hills. Summer can be warm but rarely scorching, with long daylight perfect for evening pintxo crawls. Winter is cooler and wetter — the city takes on a moody, intimate feel, with mist rolling off the Nervión and locals filling cosy bars. Whenever you come, pack a light jacket; the Basque coast keeps weather unpredictable and layering is a local habit.
