Home Exchange in Málaga

No verified homes listed in Málaga yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Málaga hums with a different energy than the postcard Andalusia of flamenco clichés. Here, the Mediterranean laps against a city that's equal parts ancient port and contemporary art hub. Mornings smell of orange blossom and fresh churros dipped in chocolate. By noon, the sun bounces off white-washed walls in the old Moorish quarter, and locals retreat indoors for long lunches. Come evening, the waterfront promenade fills with families, runners, and couples sharing plates of boquerones and cold vermouth. Picasso was born here, and you feel it—the light has a painter's quality, soft and golden, especially in spring and autumn.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

Which neighbourhoods in Málaga feel most authentically local?

Venture beyond the tourist-thick historic centre to find Málaga's everyday rhythms. El Palo and Pedregalejo, the old fishing villages folded into the eastern edge of the city, still serve the best espetos—sardines grilled over driftwood fires—right on the beach. Soho, just west of the port, has become the creative quarter, with street art and independent galleries tucked between family-run bars. For a quieter, residential feel, wander through Lagunillas or the leafy streets around La Malagueta, where neighbours chat from balconies and corner shops sell homemade pastries.
