Home Exchange in San Sebastián

No verified homes listed in San Sebastián yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

San Sebastián unfolds along a scalloped bay where Belle Époque elegance meets Basque grit. Pintxos bars in the Parte Vieja spill onto cobbled lanes, each counter a mosaic of anchovy, jamón, and pepper. The surf breaks clean at Zurriola; La Concha curves like a postcard that never quite captures the light. Evenings taste of txakoli and salt air, and the hills behind the city — Urgull, Igueldo — offer quiet walks above the clamour. It's a place that takes food, the ocean, and the rhythm of the day seriously.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

Which neighbourhoods in San Sebastián feel most authentic?

The Parte Vieja (Old Town) hums with pintxos culture and centuries-old fishing-quarter energy, though it draws crowds. Gros, across the Urumea River, skews younger and surf-friendly, with a more lived-in feel. Amara and Egia are residential, tree-lined, and closer to how locals actually live — markets, bakeries, neighbourhood bars. For Belle Époque grandeur and beach access, the Centro (around La Concha) delivers postcard views but less grit. Each barrio has its own cadence.
