Home Exchange in Bern
No verified homes listed in Bern yet — the first hosts get priority placement.
Bern moves at its own tempo — arcaded lanes wind through a medieval old town where fountains burble and the Aare curves in an emerald loop. This is a capital that feels more like a university town: café philosophers, Saturday markets spilling over with Emmental and wild garlic, trams rattling past sandstone facades unchanged since the Zähringer dukes laid the first stones. Summer means river swimming in the glacial current; winter brings mist that clings to the Rosengarten and makes the bears in the park look mythical. You taste it in the Meringue, smell it in the woodsmoke from corner bakeries.

Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
Which season shows Bern at its best?
Late spring through early autumn reveals Bern in full stride — the Aare warms just enough for the locals' beloved river floats, markets overflow with alpine strawberries and asparagus, and you can linger in the arcades without gloves. Winter has its own charm: Christmas markets glow under the Zytglogge, and the old town takes on a Grimm Brothers stillness. Just know that November fog can settle for days, turning the city introspective and beautifully melancholic.
