Home Exchange in Montreal

No verified homes listed in Montreal yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Montreal mornings smell like espresso and warm bagels pulled from wood-fired ovens, the French chatter spilling onto cobblestone streets that could belong to another continent. This is a city that refuses to choose—European grace meets North American ease, where you'll brunch in a Mile End apartment with a backyard grape arbour, then bike along the Lachine Canal as the city's bilingual rhythm hums around you. The homes below open the door to that duality: the spiral staircases, the summer festivals heard from balconies, the neighbourhoods where every corner dépanneur feels like a small discovery.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 7 free credits — one full week — so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

Which neighbourhoods in Montreal feel most local?

Mile End and Plateau-Mont-Royal pulse with café culture, vintage shops, and murals—where you'll hear as much French as English over morning cortados. Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie skews quieter and more residential, with tree-lined streets and family-run Italian bakeries. For waterfront calm, Lachine and Verdun offer canal paths and a slower pace. In winter, any neighbourhood with a nearby métro stop becomes your lifeline; in summer, the ones with bike lanes and park access steal the show.
