Home Exchange in Avignon
No verified homes listed in Avignon yet — the first hosts get priority placement.
Avignon hums with a particular thickness: stone walls that held popes, plane trees filtering July light onto café terraces, the mistral wind arriving without warning to rattle shutters and clear the sky to impossible blue. This is a city scaled for walking, where the covered market on Place Pie smells of tapenade and goat cheese by mid-morning, and evenings stretch long on shared courtyards behind those honey-coloured facades. To stay here properly means claiming a kitchen where you'll slice tomatoes still warm from the Saturday marché, a balcony where the bells of the Palais des Papes mark your days. The homes below open the door to that rhythm.

Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 7 free credits — one full week — so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
When's the best time to experience Avignon without the festival crowds?
Late spring (May to early June) and early autumn (September to October) offer Avignon at its most generous—warm enough for apéro on a terrace, cool enough to explore the ramparts without wilting, and blissfully free of the July theatre festival crush. The mistral blows cleaner in autumn, the light turns golden over the Rhône, and you'll actually get a table at the good bistros in Rue des Teinturiers. Winter has its own charm if you don't mind brisk winds: empty cobblestones, truffle season in the markets, and locals reclaiming their city.
