Home Exchange in Marseille
No verified homes listed in Marseille yet — the first hosts get priority placement.
Marseille wakes to the clatter of fishing boats and the shout of vendors hawking sea urchins at the Vieux-Port. France's oldest city moves to a Mediterranean clock — long lunches of bouillabaisse, late-afternoon pastis in the Panier's narrow streets, evening swims off the calanques when the mistral dies down. A hotel room here means missing the morning ritual at the neighbourhood boulangerie, the rooftop clotheslines snapping in the wind, the way locals argue over which crique has the cleanest water. The homes below open the door to that rhythm.

Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 7 free credits — one full week — so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
Which neighbourhoods in Marseille feel most local?
Le Panier, the old port quarter, sprawls with laundry-draped alleys and morning markets. Locals favour the 7th and 8th arrondissements near the beaches — Prado, Pointe Rouge — where you're close to both calanques hikes and corner tabacs. Cours Julien pulls a younger, artsy crowd with street murals and natural wine bars. Avoid staying too close to La Canebière's tourist churn; the city's real texture lives in the quartiers where you hear more Provençal-accented French than English.
