Czech Republic offers digital nomads a rare combination of medieval charm and modern infrastructure. Prague's dense concentration of coworking spaces sits alongside reliable fibre internet that extends well beyond the capital—Brno's tech scene hums with startups, while smaller cities like Olomouc deliver affordable living without sacrificing connectivity. The cost of living remains reasonable compared to Western Europe, and the café culture runs deep: you'll find locals nursing espresso for hours without judgment. Central European location means weekend trains to Vienna, Krakow, or Dresden. Czech bureaucracy can test patience, but the 90-day Schengen window gives most nomads ample time to settle into a rhythm.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

What's the internet situation like for remote work across Czech Republic?

Fibre internet is widespread and genuinely fast—100+ Mbps connections are standard even in residential neighbourhoods, and many apartment buildings offer gigabit options. Prague and Brno have dozens of coworking spaces with backup generators and dedicated lines. Smaller cities like Liberec or České Budějovice maintain solid infrastructure thanks to EU investment. Cafés generally offer free WiFi, though speeds vary; serious work calls for a SIM card with 4G data (coverage is excellent nationwide). Power outages are rare. The bigger adjustment is often older building layouts that weren't designed for home offices.
