France delivers what digital nomads need most: dependable infrastructure wrapped in daily beauty. High-speed fibre runs through centuries-old apartments in Lyon and Marseille, coworking spaces occupy renovated industrial lofts, and the café culture isn't just romantic—it's practical, with outlets and patient waitstaff who respect the long-session laptop crowd. Beyond Paris, cities like Bordeaux and Montpellier offer lower living costs, walkable cores, and thriving international communities. The rhythm works: morning boulangerie runs, solid work hours, evening apéros that ease you into local life. France's train network means weekend exploration doesn't require a car, and the healthcare system is exceptional if you're staying longer.

Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
How many homes are available for exchange in France?
Right now there are 2 verified homes available for exchange in France. The list you see on this page is pulled live, so it stays in sync as new members join the community.
What kind of homes can I expect to find in France?
The current France catalog includes apartments. You can filter by property type, number of bedrooms and amenities directly on the listings page — and because this information comes straight from the database, it reflects what's actually available today, not a generic description.
What's the internet situation like for remote work in French homes?
French cities have widespread fibre optic coverage, and most urban apartments come with reliable high-speed connections—often faster than you'd find in North America. The term to know is 'fibre optique.' Mobile data is also excellent and affordable through carriers like Free or Bouygues, making backup hotspots easy. Rural properties can be spottier, so if you're eyeing a countryside exchange, confirm the setup beforehand. Coworking spaces are plentiful in cities, with networks like Anticafé and Spaces offering day passes when you need a change of scene or bulletproof bandwidth.
