No listings matched yet in Romania be the first host

Romania's tech hubs hum with fast fibre, affordable living costs, and a startup culture that's drawn remote workers from across Europe. In cities like Cluj-Napoca and Bucharest, you'll find coworking spaces with espresso bars, reliable 4G in mountain villages, and a cost of living that stretches your budget further than most EU destinations. The blend of medieval towns, Carpathian trails, and thriving digital communities means you can code from a Transylvanian guesthouse one week and join meetups in Timișoara the next. Romania offers the infrastructure you need and the novelty your feed craves.

Why Romania works for for digital nomads

Homes, not hotel rooms

Live in a real Romania home — kitchen, balcony, neighbourhood rhythm — instead of a generic hotel room.

Fair by design

1 credit = 1 night. Every home is worth the same. No bidding, no haggling, no price surges.

Curated for for digital nomads

We prioritise wifi, workspace · apartment, houses — the kind of homes that actually fit the travel style.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

What's the digital nomad infrastructure like in Romania?

Romania boasts some of Europe's fastest internet speeds, with fibre widely available even in smaller cities. Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, and Timișoara have established coworking scenes with monthly memberships, regular tech meetups, and English-speaking communities. Cafés typically offer strong Wi-Fi, and mobile data is both cheap and reliable. The cost of living is significantly lower than Western Europe, so your remote income stretches further for accommodation, meals, and weekend trips into the Carpathians or Danube Delta.
