Vietnam has quietly become one of Asia's most compelling remote work destinations, where a month's rent in a modern apartment costs less than a week in most Western cities, and fiber internet rivals what you'd find in Seoul or Singapore. In Hanoi's Old Quarter or Ho Chi Minh City's District 1, you're never more than a five-minute walk from a café with excellent coffee, reliable power outlets, and a community of other location-independent professionals. The country's improving infrastructure—new coworking spaces opening monthly, widespread English in expat neighborhoods, and a food culture that makes eating out cheaper than cooking—means you can focus on your work while experiencing one of Southeast Asia's most dynamic cultures.

Why Vietnam works for for digital nomads

Homes, not hotel rooms

Live in a real Vietnam home — kitchen, balcony, neighbourhood rhythm — instead of a generic hotel room.

Fair by design

1 credit = 1 night. Every home is worth the same. No bidding, no haggling, no price surges.

Curated for for digital nomads

We prioritise wifi, workspace · apartment, houses — the kind of homes that actually fit the travel style.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

What's the internet reliability like for remote work in Vietnam?

Major cities like Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang offer fiber connections ranging from 50-100 Mbps in most modern apartments and coworking spaces, with backup 4G that's both fast and inexpensive. Coastal towns and smaller cities have improved dramatically in recent years, though it's worth checking specific neighborhood infrastructure if you're working outside the main expat areas. Most digital nomads keep a local SIM with a generous data plan as a reliable fallback, and power outages are rare in urban centers.
