Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
Which aspects of Brazilian culture make it particularly welcoming for families with children?
Brazilian society is deeply family-centric, with children integrated into all aspects of daily life rather than confined to kid-specific spaces. Restaurants stay open late and genuinely welcome young diners, public spaces often feature playgrounds and open-air gathering spots, and locals are remarkably patient and helpful with families navigating new routines. Multi-generational outings are standard, so you'll rarely feel out of place bringing children anywhere. The emphasis on outdoor living—beaches, parks, street festivals—means entertainment is often free, accessible, and naturally engaging for curious young minds.
