The United States offers families an extraordinary range of experiences, from coastal adventures to mountain retreats and everything in between. Whether your kids thrive on theme parks in Florida, tide pools along the Pacific Northwest, or the living history of New England towns, you'll find neighbourhoods built around parks, libraries, and family rhythms. American homes often come with yards, playrooms, and kitchens stocked for real cooking—spaces designed for the beautiful chaos of family life. Regional differences mean you can choose your climate, your pace, and your kind of adventure, all while staying in communities where weekend farmers' markets, Little League fields, and family-friendly restaurants are woven into daily life.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

What should families know about travelling with kids across different regions of the United States?

American regions vary dramatically in climate, culture, and pace. The South and Southwest offer warm winters but intense summers; the Northeast and Midwest bring snowy seasons perfect for cozy indoor time and winter sports. Distances between cities can be vast—road trips are common, and many families rent cars. Grocery stores are abundant and well-stocked for dietary needs. Playgrounds, public libraries, and free museum days are staples of American family culture. Portions at restaurants tend to be large, and tap water is safe everywhere. Each region has distinct foods worth trying: clam chowder in New England, barbecue in the South, fresh produce in California.
