Raising kids in motion means chasing places where wonder comes naturally, and Vietnam delivers that in spades. From the lantern-lit lanes of Hoi An where children can release paper boats on the Thu Bon River, to the vast karst islands of Ha Long Bay that feel like a geography lesson come alive, this country turns everyday moments into teachable adventures. Markets brim with tropical fruits your kids have never tasted, beaches stretch wide and shallow enough for confident paddling, and the Vietnamese warmth toward children—expect strangers to smile at your toddler, offer snacks, ask their age—makes family travel feel less like an expedition and more like a homecoming.

Why Vietnam works for for families

Homes, not hotel rooms

Live in a real Vietnam home — kitchen, balcony, neighbourhood rhythm — instead of a generic hotel room.

Fair by design

1 credit = 1 night. Every home is worth the same. No bidding, no haggling, no price surges.

Curated for for families

We prioritise homes sleeping 4+ people · wifi, kitchen, washer · house, villa, apartments — the kind of homes that actually fit the travel style.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 7 free credits — one full week — so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

Which parts of Vietnam are easiest to navigate with young children?

Hoi An and Hue offer compact old towns, minimal traffic, and river-front calm—ideal for stroller walks and early bedtimes. Da Nang pairs family beaches with modern infrastructure. Hanoi's Old Quarter charms but demands vigilance with motorbike traffic; consider staying near Hoan Kiem Lake for green space. Phu Quoc island brings resort ease and gentle waves. Avoid multi-city sprints; Vietnam rewards slow travel, especially when nap schedules and little legs are in the mix.
