Vietnam unfolds as a surprisingly family-friendly destination where ancient temples meet beach towns built for slow mornings. Hanoi's Old Quarter hums with street food stalls serving pho and banh mi that even cautious eaters warm to, while Hoi An's lantern-lit evenings and bicycle-friendly lanes create a gentle pace for exploring with children. The coastal stretches from Da Nang to Nha Trang offer calm waters and long sandbars, and Vietnamese hospitality extends naturally to families — high chairs appear without asking, and locals delight in engaging with kids. Homestays in the Mekong Delta or the northern highlands give children a window into rural rhythms, from rice planting to water buffalo sightings.

Why Vietnam works for for families

Homes, not hotel rooms

Live in a real Vietnam home — kitchen, balcony, neighbourhood rhythm — instead of a generic hotel room.

Fair by design

1 credit = 1 night. Every home is worth the same. No bidding, no haggling, no price surges.

Curated for for families

We prioritise homes sleeping 4+ people · wifi, kitchen, washer · house, villa, apartments — the kind of homes that actually fit the travel style.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

Which parts of Vietnam are easiest to navigate with young children?

Hoi An stands out for its compact, walkable ancient town and traffic-free evenings, making it ideal for families with toddlers or strollers. Da Nang and Nha Trang offer wide beaches, modern amenities, and resort infrastructure without overwhelming crowds. Hanoi's French Quarter and West Lake area provide tree-lined streets and parks, though the Old Quarter's motorbike traffic requires closer supervision. The Mekong Delta's homestays and boat tours captivate older children, while Sapa's terraced landscapes suit families comfortable with hill walks and cooler mountain air.
