Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 7 free credits — one full week — so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
What market dynamics make Norway particularly valuable for business research visits?
Norway operates a distinctive economic model balancing petroleum wealth with aggressive decarbonisation, creating natural experiments in transition economics. The transparent corporate governance culture means business districts and innovation hubs are surprisingly accessible for observation. Regional cities like Stavanger and Trondheim showcase sector-specific clusters—energy tech and marine robotics respectively—while maintaining cost structures and labour markets distinct from continental Europe. The krone's volatility against euro and dollar also provides real-time currency impact observations. Staying residentially rather than in business hotels reveals consumer behaviour patterns and cost-of-living realities that contextualize market data.
