Home Exchange in Huacachina
No verified homes listed in Huacachina yet — the first hosts get priority placement.
Huacachina rises from the dunes like a desert mirage — a tiny lagoon village wrapped in date palms and eucalyptus, surrounded by the tallest sand mountains in South America. Most mornings begin with the hum of dune buggies warming up and the scent of chicharrón from the handful of cafés circling the water. By afternoon, sandboarders carve golden slopes while pelicans glide overhead, improbably far from the Pacific. The village itself feels like a single postcard: a few dusty streets, colonial-style hostels with terracotta roofs, and that impossible green oasis shimmering at the centre. Evenings turn the dunes rose and violet, and the desert goes quiet except for the croak of frogs.

Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
What's the best time to visit Huacachina?
May through September brings clear skies and cooler desert nights — ideal for sandboarding and sunset dune walks without the coastal fog that rolls in from nearby Ica during winter. Summer (December to March) gets hotter, sometimes pushing past 35°C, but the lagoon feels more vibrant and the grape harvest in surrounding valleys is in full swing. Avoid the shoulder months if you're sensitive to wind; September and April can kick up serious sand. Weekdays are quieter than weekends, when Limeños escape to the dunes.
