Home Exchange in Puno

No verified homes listed in Puno yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Perched at nearly 4,000 metres on the shores of Lake Titicaca, Puno feels like a city suspended between water and sky. The air is thin and bright, the markets hum with Quechua and Aymara, and reed boats drift across cobalt water toward floating islands. Mornings arrive cold and sharp, afternoons warm under relentless sun. This is the folklore capital of Peru — a place of devil dances, brass bands that shake the streets during Candelaria, and chicharrones served steaming in corner stalls. Beyond the city, the altiplano stretches wide and golden, dotted with stone chullpas and grazing alpacas.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

When's the best time to visit Puno?

The dry season from May to October brings clear skies and easier travel around the lake, though nights stay freezing year-round. February's Virgen de la Candelaria festival is one of South America's most spectacular folkloric celebrations, but it also draws huge crowds. If you're adjusting to the altitude, plan a few slow days — Puno sits higher than Cusco, and the body needs time to adapt. Layers are essential; mornings feel arctic, midday sun burns, and evenings turn cold again within an hour.
