Home Exchange in Sapa

No verified homes listed in Sapa yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Sapa clings to the Hoàng Liên Son mountains like a village suspended in cloud. Terraced rice paddies cascade down impossibly steep slopes, shifting from emerald to gold depending on the season. Hmong and Red Dao women in indigo-dyed cloth sell herbs at the morning market; the scent of grilled corn and thịt lợn cắp nách drifts through the mist. Mornings are cool even in summer, and by afternoon the peaks disappear into fog. This is northern Vietnam at its most dramatic—a place where trekking trails connect hill tribe hamlets and every valley holds a different shade of green.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

When's the best time to visit Sapa?

September through November brings the rice harvest, when the terraces glow gold and the air is crisp and clear. Spring—March to May—sees new plantings and wildflowers, though mist can linger. Winter turns surprisingly cold, sometimes even dusting Fansipan with snow, while summer means lush greenery but frequent afternoon rain. Weekends draw domestic tourists; midweek feels quieter. If you're chasing the iconic terraced landscapes, aim for late September when the rice reaches its ripest hue before the cut.
