Home Exchange in Manila

No verified homes listed in Manila yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Manila wakes to the clatter of jeepneys and the smell of pandesal still warm from the panaderia. This is a city that lives in layers — Spanish-era churches shadowed by glass towers, street-corner karinderyas serving sinigang beside air-conditioned malls, and neighbourhoods like Malate and Poblacion where the night stretches long over craft cocktails and live music. To stay here like a local is to move between those layers without a script: morning markets in Quiapo, afternoon rains watched from a lanai, evenings that might end in a hidden speakeasy or a late-night bowl of lugaw. The homes below open the door to that rhythm.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 7 free credits — one full week — so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

Which neighbourhoods in Manila feel most liveable for travellers?

Poblacion draws a younger, creative crowd with its walkable grid of bars and cafés. Malate offers a quieter, more residential feel close to the bay, while Makati's Salcedo Village balances greenery and convenience with weekend markets and tree-lined streets. For Old Manila atmosphere, Intramuros and nearby Binondo (the world's oldest Chinatown) reward wandering on foot. Most locals will tell you: traffic shapes the day, so choosing a neighbourhood close to what you want to explore matters more here than in most cities.
