Brazil unfolds as an epic canvas for the perpetually curious. From the thunderous cascades of Iguaçu Falls to the otherworldly dunes of Lençóis Maranhenses, from Carnival's explosive street parades to silent sunrise hikes through Atlantic rainforest, this is a country that rewards those who chase experience over itinerary. Colonial towns spill down hillsides in Minas Gerais, capoeira circles form on Salvador's beaches at dusk, and the Pantanal offers some of the planet's most accessible wildlife encounters. A home exchange here means you're not just visiting — you're living among the festivals, the markets, the rhythm that makes Brazil impossible to summarize.

Why Brazil works for things to do

Homes, not hotel rooms

Live in a real Brazil home — kitchen, balcony, neighbourhood rhythm — instead of a generic hotel room.

Fair by design

1 credit = 1 night. Every home is worth the same. No bidding, no haggling, no price surges.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

What are some unmissable experiences in Brazil beyond the famous beaches?

Venture inland to the Pantanal wetlands for jaguar spotting and birdwatching at dawn, or explore the chapadas — table-top mountains with hidden waterfalls and ancient rock art. In the northeast, Lençóis Maranhenses offers surreal lagoons between white sand dunes. Cultural seekers should wander Ouro Preto's baroque churches, catch a bossa nova set in Rio's Lapa district, or time a visit with June's festas juninas, when entire towns celebrate with forró dancing and corn-based feasts.
