Indonesia unfolds as an activity lover's archipelago, where every island offers a different adventure. Trek through steaming volcanic calderas at sunrise in Java, dive with manta rays off Nusa Penida, or cycle through emerald rice terraces in Bali's highlands. The country rewards those who venture beyond the beach: you can explore ancient temple complexes at dawn, raft down jungle rivers in Sumatra, or island-hop through the Komodo archipelago tracking dragons. Street food tours in Yogyakarta, surf lessons in Canggu, and snorkeling in Raja Ampat's coral gardens all sit within reach, making Indonesia ideal for travellers who measure trips in experiences rather than postcards.

Why Indonesia works for things to do

Homes, not hotel rooms

Live in a real Indonesia home — kitchen, balcony, neighbourhood rhythm — instead of a generic hotel room.

Fair by design

1 credit = 1 night. Every home is worth the same. No bidding, no haggling, no price surges.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

What mix of activities can I realistically fit into a two-week Indonesia trip?

Focus on two or three islands rather than racing across the archipelago. A classic combination pairs Bali's cultural and adventure activities—temple visits, rice terrace walks, surf lessons—with either Java for volcano treks and Borobudur temple, or the Gili Islands for diving and snorkeling. Internal flights connect major hubs quickly, but factor in a day for each inter-island transfer. Travellers seeking fewer tourists often swap Bali for Flores, combining Komodo trekking with traditional villages, or head to Sumatra's jungles for orangutan encounters and crater lake hikes.
