Brazil's cities unfold like chapters in a continental novel, each with its own rhythm and character. From Rio's dramatic coastline framed by granite peaks to Salvador's pastel-colored colonial core where African heritage pulses through every street, urban Brazil rewards curious exploration. São Paulo's sprawling cultural districts house world-class museums and experimental dining scenes, while smaller gems like Curitiba showcase innovative urban planning amid European-influenced architecture. The cities here aren't just gateways—they're destinations unto themselves, where modernist landmarks stand beside baroque churches, street art transforms entire neighborhoods, and each district reveals a different facet of Brazilian identity.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

What makes Brazilian cities different from other South American urban destinations?

Brazilian cities blend influences you won't find elsewhere on the continent—Portuguese colonial architecture mixed with bold modernist design, Afro-Brazilian cultural traditions woven into daily urban life, and a scale that ranges from intimate historic centers to sprawling metropolitan networks. The rhythm is distinctly Brazilian: late dinners, beach culture integrated into city life even in landlocked areas through urban parks and lakes, and neighborhoods that shift character block by block. Public spaces prioritize gathering—think outdoor samba circles, weekend street markets, and boteco culture where locals spill onto sidewalks. Portuguese as the lingua franca also sets Brazil apart, creating its own cultural sphere within South America.
