Vietnam's cities pulse with distinct personalities that reward curious urban explorers. Hanoi's Old Quarter unfolds in a maze of guild streets where silk sellers and lacquerware artisans still cluster by medieval trade patterns. Ho Chi Minh City layers French colonial boulevards over Vietnamese markets, with rooftop bars overlooking the Saigon River at dusk. Hoi An's lantern-lit ancient town becomes a living museum after dark, while Da Nang bridges beach resort energy with Dragon Bridge's nightly fire-breathing spectacle. Hue's Imperial City reveals Nguyen Dynasty grandeur along the Perfume River. Each urban centre offers walkable historic cores, evolving food scenes that range from dawn pho stands to contemporary fusion, and neighbourhoods where pagodas sit beside contemporary art galleries.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

What makes Vietnamese cities especially rewarding for urban exploration?

Vietnamese cities preserve distinct historical layers while remaining intensely liveable. Hanoi and Hue showcase imperial and colonial architecture you can explore on foot, with lakes and citadels woven into daily neighbourhood life. Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang balance urban energy with riverside promenades perfect for evening walks. The density means everything clusters accessibly—morning markets, Buddhist temples, coffee culture, and street food all within short distances. Motorbike traffic looks chaotic but follows intuitive patterns, and most historic quarters stay pedestrian-friendly. Cities here aren't museum pieces; they're working urban spaces where history lives alongside contemporary Vietnamese life.
