Colombia's digital nomad infrastructure has matured rapidly, especially in Medellín's Laureles and Poblado neighbourhoods, where fibre internet, 24-hour cafés, and coworking spaces cluster around tree-lined streets. Bogotá's Chapinero offers a grittier, more local vibe with solid connectivity and a thriving tech meetup scene, while smaller hubs like Manizales and Pereira provide mountain air, lower costs, and surprisingly robust utilities. The country's improving security, affordable cost of living, and multiple time zones overlapping with both Europe and North America make it a practical base for remote work. Browse homes across Colombia's nomad-friendly cities and find a place that fits your rhythm.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

What's the internet situation like for remote workers in Colombia?

Major cities like Medellín, Bogotá, and Cali generally offer reliable fibre connections, with many residential buildings providing speeds suitable for video calls and cloud work. Medellín's El Poblado and Laureles districts are particularly well-served. Smaller cities like Manizales and Pereira have decent infrastructure in central areas, though it's worth confirming specifics with your host. Coworking spaces are widespread and provide backup options. Mobile data is affordable and surprisingly fast in urban zones, useful for tethering during occasional outages.
