Peru offers digital nomads a compelling mix of affordability, cultural depth, and surprisingly solid infrastructure in its urban centres. Lima's Miraflores and Barranco districts hum with coworking spaces, fibre internet, and a thriving startup scene, while Cusco and Arequipa provide high-altitude charm with reliable connectivity and expat communities. You'll find excellent coffee culture, affordable long-term stays, and a timezone that aligns well with both US and European working hours. Beyond the laptop, Peru delivers weekend adventures—from coastal surf breaks to Andean treks—that make extended stays feel purposeful rather than transactional.

Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
Which Peruvian cities offer the best balance of reliable internet and digital nomad community?
Lima's Miraflores and Barranco neighbourhoods lead with fibre connections averaging 100+ Mbps, abundant coworking spaces, and regular nomad meetups. Cusco surprises with solid internet in the historic centre and a growing remote worker scene, though altitude takes a week to adjust to. Arequipa offers a quieter, more affordable alternative with dependable connectivity and a tight-knit expat community. Coastal cities like Máncora work for short stints but infrastructure can be inconsistent. Most cafés in these hubs understand remote work rhythms and won't rush you off a table.
