Spacious homes, full kitchens, and kid-friendly neighbourhoods.

No listings matched yet in Bulgaria be the first host

Bulgaria offers families an unexpected blend of mountain adventures and Black Sea beaches, all without the price tags of Western Europe. Kids can explore medieval fortresses like Tsarevets in Veliko Tarnovo, where costumed reenactments bring history alive, or splash in the gentle waves of Sunny Beach while parents enjoy genuinely affordable seaside dining. Sofia's parks are filled with playgrounds and ice cream vendors, and the countryside reveals hiking trails suitable for little legs, traditional villages where babas still bake banitsa, and a slower pace that lets families actually relax together.

Why Bulgaria works for for families

Homes, not hotel rooms

Live in a real Bulgaria home — kitchen, balcony, neighbourhood rhythm — instead of a generic hotel room.

Fair by design

1 credit = 1 night. Every home is worth the same. No bidding, no haggling, no price surges.

Curated for for families

We prioritise homes sleeping 4+ people · wifi, kitchen, washer · house, villa, apartments — the kind of homes that actually fit the travel style.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

What makes Bulgaria practical for families traveling with young children?

Bulgaria is remarkably child-friendly in ways that surprise first-time visitors. Restaurants welcome kids warmly, often bringing colouring sheets and treats without being asked. Public spaces like Borisova Gradina in Sofia have well-maintained playgrounds, and beaches along the Black Sea slope gently into warm, shallow water. The food is mild and accessible—grilled meats, fresh yogurt, shopska salad—and locals are patient with children. Distances between mountains, cities, and coast are manageable, so you're never locked into one landscape for long.
