Chile stretches from desert to glacier, offering families a rare chance to experience wildly different landscapes without changing countries. Your kids can spot Humboldt penguins on coastal rocks, explore the colourful hills of Valparaíso where street art covers every staircase, and taste fresh empanadas from neighbourhood bakeries. Santiago's sprawling parks—like Parque Bicentenario with its flamingo lagoons—give children space to run, while the country's excellent public safety record and welcoming attitude toward families make everyday outings feel relaxed. Chilean homes often centre around shared meals and outdoor courtyards, rhythms that suit family life beautifully.

Why Chile works for for families

Homes, not hotel rooms

Live in a real Chile home — kitchen, balcony, neighbourhood rhythm — instead of a generic hotel room.

Fair by design

1 credit = 1 night. Every home is worth the same. No bidding, no haggling, no price surges.

Curated for for families

We prioritise homes sleeping 4+ people · wifi, kitchen, washer · house, villa, apartments — the kind of homes that actually fit the travel style.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

What makes Chile manageable for families travelling with young children?

Chile's compact urban centres and reliable infrastructure make navigating with kids straightforward. Most neighbourhoods have nearby plazas with playgrounds, and Chileans are famously warm toward children—expect restaurant staff to bring colouring sheets and locals to offer help with strollers. The food is mild and approachable (think grilled meats, rice, and fresh fruit), so picky eaters adapt easily. Distances between major family-friendly spots—beaches, mountain villages, lake districts—are reasonable, and domestic travel is well-organised. The culture values family time deeply, so you'll find child-friendly hours and patience everywhere.
