Ireland wraps families in a gentle embrace of storytelling, green countryside, and towns scaled for curious kids. From the cobbled lanes of Galway where buskers spin tales to the rugged Cliffs of Moher that spark wonder, this island moves at a pace children can actually enjoy. Coastal villages offer rock-pooling and fish-and-chip suppers, while Dublin's parks and interactive museums turn rainy afternoons into adventures. Irish hospitality extends naturally to families—pubs welcome little ones until early evening, playgrounds dot even the smallest towns, and locals delight in chatting with children. The distances are manageable, the accents are enchanting, and there's always a castle ruin to clamber.

Why Ireland works for for families

Homes, not hotel rooms

Live in a real Ireland home — kitchen, balcony, neighbourhood rhythm — instead of a generic hotel room.

Fair by design

1 credit = 1 night. Every home is worth the same. No bidding, no haggling, no price surges.

Curated for for families

We prioritise homes sleeping 4+ people · wifi, kitchen, washer · house, villa, apartments — the kind of homes that actually fit the travel style.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

Which parts of Ireland are most family-friendly for a home exchange stay?

Coastal towns like Dingle, Kinsale, and Westport offer beaches, gentle walks, and village life that's easy with kids. Dublin's southside neighbourhoods near Phoenix Park give you green space and museums within reach. Galway's compact centre and nearby Connemara provide both culture and nature without long drives. Cork city has excellent playgrounds and the Fota Wildlife Park nearby. Most Irish towns have safe, walkable centres, local playgrounds, and family-run cafes that genuinely welcome children—high chairs and colouring sheets are standard, not afterthoughts.
