Home Exchange in Salento

No verified homes listed in Salento yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Salento's wax palms rise like cathedral spires from the mist, and the town itself feels like a watercolour—ochre balconies, painted doorways, cobbled lanes that climb toward coffee farms. Mornings smell of tinto and arepas; afternoons belong to the Valle de Cocora, where hikers thread between the world's tallest palms. This is Colombia's coffee heartland, a place where jeeps rattle up mountain roads and every finca seems to offer a hammock with a view. The plaza hums with travellers and locals alike, but step one street over and you'll find the rhythm slow to something older.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

When's the best time to visit Salento?

The driest months run from December through March and again in July and August, ideal for trekking the Cocora Valley without mud. That said, the cloud forest doesn't really do 'dry'—mist and sudden showers are part of the charm year-round. Weekends draw crowds from Pereira and Armenia, so midweek visits feel quieter. If you're chasing coffee harvest season, look toward April and May or October and November, when the fincas are busiest and tastings feel especially alive.
