Home Exchange in Santa Marta

No verified homes listed in Santa Marta yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Santa Marta wakes to the sound of waves and the smell of arepas frying in doorways along the malecón. Wedged between the Caribbean and the Sierra Nevada—the world's highest coastal mountain range—it offers something hotel zones rarely do: a morning swim before hiking to cloud forest, lunch in a fishing village older than Cartagena, and evenings where the rhythm is set by vallenato spilling from corner tiendas, not resort playlists. The homes below open the door to that rhythm.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

When's the best time to visit Santa Marta?

December through March brings dry skies and calm seas, ideal for Tayrona treks and boat trips to coastal villages. April and May see fewer crowds but occasional afternoon showers. June through November is wetter, though mornings often stay clear and the Sierra Nevada stays accessible. Locals say the city feels most itself outside high season—slower, saltier, more generous with conversation.
