Home Exchange in Arequipa

No verified homes listed in Arequipa yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Arequipa announces itself in white sillar stone—volcanic rock carved into colonial arches that glow amber at sunset. The city sits at 2,300 metres, cradled by three volcanoes, where the air is thin and the light is sharp enough to etch shadows across Plaza de Armas. Mornings here belong to picarones vendors and the clatter of market stalls in San Camilo; evenings to the monasteries and rooftop terraces where locals linger over queso helado. To stay in Arequipa is to live on Andean time—slow lunches of rocoto relleno, long walks through Yanahuara's cobbled streets, the rhythm of a city that's never rushed to be anywhere else. The homes below open the door to that rhythm.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 7 free credits — one full week — so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

What's the best time of year to visit Arequipa?

April through November brings dry, crystalline days—the volcanoes stand out cleanest, and you'll avoid the summer rains that arrive December through March. May and September hit the sweet spot: mild temperatures, fewer crowds than peak winter months, and perfect light for exploring the Santa Catalina monastery or trekking Colca Canyon. Arequipeños call their city 'eternal spring,' but pack layers—the high altitude means chilly mornings even when afternoons warm up. If you're chasing festivals, August's anniversary celebrations fill the streets with parades and fireworks.
