Home Exchange in Iquitos

No verified homes listed in Iquitos yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Iquitos hums with the sound of three-wheeled mototaxis and the slow churn of cargo boats along the Amazon. Marooned in the rainforest with no roads connecting it to the rest of Peru, the city feels like an island — a place where you eat tacacho for breakfast, haggle for paiche at Belén market, and watch the river rise and fall with the seasons. Staying here means waking to the calls of oropendolas, learning which juice stand makes the best aguaje, and understanding why locals move on river time. The homes below open the door to that rhythm.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 7 free credits — one full week — so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

What's the best time to visit Iquitos?

The high-water season (December to May) turns the forest into a labyrinth of flooded trails and makes wildlife easier to spot from canoes, while the low-water season (June to November) exposes sandy beaches along the Amazon and reveals walking paths through the jungle. Both have their magic. Iquitos itself stays hot and humid year-round, so pack light and plan for afternoon downpours. The city's festivals — especially San Juan in late June — bring the streets alive with music and grilled fish wrapped in bijao leaves.
