Home Exchange in Cusco

No verified homes listed in Cusco yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

The sound of Quechua echoes in stone-paved alleyways where Inca walls meet colonial balconies, and the altitude sharpens everything — the light, the cold mornings, the taste of coca tea sipped in a courtyard. Cusco rewards the traveller who lingers past the Sacred Valley day-trip, who learns which mercado sells the best anticuchos on Thursday, who feels the city's rhythm shift between tourist centro and the residential barrios climbing the hills. The homes below open the door to that slower, higher life.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 7 free credits — one full week — so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

When's the best time to visit Cusco?

May through September brings dry, sunny days and cold nights — ideal for trekking and exploring ruins without mud. The rainy season from November to March turns the hills green and clears the crowds, though afternoon downpours are common. June's Inti Raymi festival fills the city with processions and ceremony. Whenever you come, acclimatise slowly: Cusco sits at 3,400 metres, and the altitude is real. Most locals recommend spending your first day doing very little besides walking gently and drinking mate de coca.
