Home Exchange in Puno
No verified homes listed in Puno yet — the first hosts get priority placement.
At 3,800 metres, the air in Puno carries a thinness that sharpens everything — the light off Lake Titicaca, the rattle of a tuk-tuk climbing cobbled streets, the smell of quinoa soup simmering in a courtyard kitchen. This is the altiplano, where Quechua and Aymara rhythms run deeper than any tourist itinerary, and where staying put long enough to acclimatise means you catch the Sunday market in Juliaca, the reed boats heading out at dawn, the way locals bundle against the cold in layered aguayo textiles. The homes below open the door to that high-altitude life, where mornings start slow with coca tea and the lake feels like a presence in every room.

Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 7 free credits — one full week — so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
When's the best time to visit Puno?
May through September brings the dry season — crisp, cold nights and blazing daytime sun ideal for lake excursions and the floating Uros islands. February's Candelaria festival floods the streets with dancers and brass bands, but expect afternoon rains. Winter (June–August) means bone-chilling mornings, so pack serious layers. The shoulder months of April and October offer fewer crowds and still-decent weather, though the altiplano can surprise you with hail any time of year.
